Hello friends and sisters! I hope this finds you well and happy. There is some information I would like to share with you, to keep you updated. So, if I can have a few minutes of your time, I would appreciate it so much.
Item I
We can still use a few helping hands stuffing Purim bags and packaging the hamantashen. If you can help, please stop by the synagogue at 6:30 p.m., on Thursday, March 1st.
There is another big item I need almost immediate assistance with. I was scheduled to help distribute Purim Bags after services on this Saturday (March 3rd). Due to a family emergency, I cannot be there that day. If you can possibly be there after services to distribute Purim bags, please call me at 281-455-4955. I would greatly appreciate your help with this.
Item II
There are a few changes to our calendar for the upcoming months. Please note these changes on your calendars so there will be no confusion.
Breakfast Burritos & Bunco, currently scheduled for Sunday, March 18th at 9:30 a.m. and Officer/Board Elections/Brunch, currently scheduled for May 6th at 9:30 a.m., will now be a combined activity scheduled on Thursday, May 17th at 7:00 p.m. The combined activity, which is now, Officer and Board Elections / Potluck & Games Night (bring your favorite games and groups to play), developed out of necessity of an inadvertent over scheduling around Purim time.
Officer Installation / Brunch will remain on Sunday, June 10th at 9:30 a.m.
Item III
The IntraContinental Region of Women’s League for Conservative Judaism will hold its annual conference May 6th – 8th in San Antonio at the Hyatt Regency Riverwalk. The IntraContinental Region is so large the chance of another conference happening this close to home again anytime soon is not that likely. So we hope you will take advantage of this. The Sisterhood budgets money each year to help offset expenses for those who would like to attend. We plan to drive, so you could catch a ride if you like. This is a great opportunity. If you have an interest in attending the conference this year, please contact me at celeonard@verizon.net or 281-455-4955, and let me know, so I can send you a registration form and additional pertinent information.
Last month, I attended the Women's League Leadership Institute session in Los Angeles. It was absolutely spectacular. It was a rather small group of a little over a dozen women from all over North America. We have two new friends in Calgary, a couple in California, and a few in Florida. It was great meeting with them and discussing the successes AND the challenges we've each experienced. We met daily at the American Jewish University in Brentwood. It was an amazingly beautiful campus nestled within some of the prettiest mountains I think I've ever seen. We would attend morning prayer each day in the synagogue with the students (most of which were rabbinic or cantorial students); we would eat in their cafeteria with them, and see them quite often in the admin building, where our group would meet. There was a break after lunch one day and two or three of us decided to explore the area a bit more, when we were approached by a couple of young men. They stopped us and said they'd seen us in prayer each morning ... and they knew we were from the Women's League, and they wanted to thank us for our continued support of the Torah Fund. One of the young men gave each of us a crushing hug and told us that if it were not for the Torah Fund, (that, as you know we participate in) he would not be there at the rabbinic school.
We do great work, ladies!
As always, I cannot express in words my appreciation for your dedication and hard work. And I thank you with all my heart.
As always, big hugs,
Cathy Leonard
